Old Sheldon Church, SC |
I just love this place. It is so hauntingly beautiful and has always captivated me since I was a little girl. It is on a back road that you can take to get down to Charleston, SC area. I wanted to have my wedding portraits here years ago but because we had to get here by 6am - it proved to be a little too difficult. It is kinda in the middle of nowhere.
When I stand in this place, it reminds me of a life so long ago and how incredible it really was to be even built in this place. It's amazing how people trudged through this swampy area and built this stunning church. I love standing in very old places. I love how there is so much history and so many stories to share.
I am not sure why this place is so special to me compared to other places. Maybe because it is a testament of our strength, courage and faith. Maybe it's from reading all the headstones there and trying to envision their lives, their struggles, their loves.
We are all here due to our heritage. Mine is heavily rooted in the South. I am the first in six generations to leave Georgia. I love it here in Colorado but the low country speaks to me.
I know that one day I will return.
