Red Rocks Amphitheater ROCKS

I bought tickets for Old Crow Medicine Show and Avett Brothers at Red Rocks in Morrison, CO back in January for Andy's birthday on July 5.  Neither one of us have been there because we have been so spoiled by all the amazing artists that come through Telluride.  I decided that Andy and I needed a little getaway for his birthday to finally see what all the fuss was about at Red Rocks.

WOW!  What an experience.  First off, we had to hike about a mile into the park area.  Then, you have to climb at least a 1000 stairs to get to your seat.  The view is stunning over Denver and you are nestled into the side of a mountain with the most beautiful red boulders.  At the top of amphitheater there were all kinds of neat vendors selling beer, wine & food.  Under the top viewing area is a restaurant, a hall of fame & beautiful artwork of the area.

The music was so spectacular and when sky became dark the city lights of Denver twinkled out beyond us.  The red rocks were also illuminated all around us.

Old Crow rocked the house.  Everyone was doing a little jig.  Then, the Avett Brothers took the stage and mesmerized us all.  I even had tears through a couple of songs.  I'm a big softie.  It's amazing how powerful some songs are depending on your life experiences.  The energy of the brothers mixed with their heartfelt lyrics made for one amazing night.  Plus they are Tee-Totally easy on the eyes.

We even had Augusta, GA people sitting in front of us which was awesome because that's our hometown!!

Here are my two favorite songs from the night:

February Seven, Avett Brothers

I went on the search for something true.
I was almost there when I found you.
Sooner then my fate was wrote
A perfect blade it slit my throat
And beads of lust released into the air.
When I awoke you were standing there.

I was on the mend when I fell through.
The sky around was anything but blue.
I found as I regained my feet
A wound across my memory
That no amount of stitches would repair.
But I awoke and you were standing there.

There's no fortune at the end of the road that has no end.
There's no returning to the spoils
Once you've spoiled the thought of them.
There's no falling back asleep
Once you've wakened from the dream
Now I'm rested and I'm ready,
I'm rested and I'm ready to begin.
I'm ready to begin.

I went on the search for something real.
Traded what I know for how I feel.
But the ceiling and the walls collapsed
Upon the darkness I was trapped
And as the last of breath was drawn from me
The light broke in and brought me to my feet.

There's no fortune at the end of the road that has no end.
There's no returning to the spoils
Once you've spoiled the thought of them.
There's no falling back asleep
Once you've wakened from the dream.
Now I'm rested and I'm ready
I'm rested and I'm ready
Yeah I'm rested and I'm ready
I'm rested and I'm ready
Yeah I'm rested and I'm ready
I'm rested and I'm ready
To begin
I'm ready to begin

Head Full of Doubt, Avett Brothers

There's a darkness upon me that's flooded in light
In the fine print they tell me what's wrong and what's right
And it comes in black and it comes in white
And I'm frightened by those who don't see it

When nothing is owed, deserved or expected
And your life doesn't change by the man that's elected
If you're loved by someone you're never rejected
Decide what to be and go be it.

There was a dream
One day I could see it
Like a bird in a cage I broke in and demanded that somebody free it
And there was a kid, with a head full of doubt
So I scream til I die or the last of those bad thoughts are finally out

There's a darkness upon you that's flooded in light
In the fine print they tell you what's wrong and what's right
And it flies by day and it flies by night
And I'm frightened by those who don't see it
